Fan Cleaning¶
Interval: Every 30 days (every 14 days in dusty environments)
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 10 minutes
Applies to: C235, C335, C435
Why¶
Dust and filament fibers build up on the hotend, part-cooling, and controller board fans over time, causing:
- Reduced airflow and overheating of electronics
- Poor part cooling, leading to stringing and warping
- Increased fan noise and premature bearing wear
What You Need¶
- Compressed air canister or small air blower
- Soft brush (paintbrush or antistatic brush)
- Tweezers (if needed)
Warning
Turn off and unplug the printer, and wait until all components are completely cool before cleaning.
Steps¶
1. Power off the printer¶
Turn off and unplug the printer. Wait for the hotend and bed to cool down fully.
2. Access the fans¶
Locate the hotend fan, part-cooling fan, and controller board fan.
3. Blow out dust¶
Use compressed air or a small air blower to clear dust from each fan and its housing.
4. Brush stuck debris¶
Use a soft brush to gently dislodge dust that compressed air alone doesn't remove.
5. Remove fibers¶
Use tweezers to pull out any long fibers or hairs caught in the fan blades.
6. Mark as done¶
On your SmartPad: Menu > More > Maintenance > Fan Cleaning > Done
Tips¶
- Clean intake filters or covers if present
- Listen for unusual noise after cleaning — it may indicate damaged bearings
- In dusty workshop environments, clean every 14 days instead of monthly
